New digital technologies and the advent of Industry 4.0 are profoundly changing the way companies manage their manufacturing chain, from the initial customer request to the delivery of the final product.

That is why Luxinnovation, in collaboration with FEDIL and the Chamber of Skilled Crafts, is organising the Smart Manufacturing Conference 2019. This event will give an overview of how companies can boost productivity and competitiveness by finding and implementing digital technologies that can transform their plants into smart and connected manufacturing sites.

“Smart manufacturing” refers to a fully interconnected and flexible physical infrastructure, powered by information technology through a constant flow of data that makes it possible to optimise the adaptation to new demands.

Going much further than traditional automation, “smart manufacturing” connects production units on the shop floor with functions such as product design and the different stakeholders in the supply chain. It also allows greater traceability and transparency for the end customer.

Sharing of experiences

Concrete cases will be presented in the fields of customer/supplier administration, production planning and optimisation, quality and predictive maintenance. They will illustrate how these functions can be integrated into the system of a “smart” factory. The examples will come from a wide range of sectors including wood, the automotive industry and the manufacturing sector and are relevant to large companies as well as SMEs and craft businesses.

The event is organised in collaboration with the AutoMobility, ICT, Materials & Manufacturing and Wood clusters, as well as with the SME Performance department of Luxinnovation.

“Industry 4.0 is a challenge for many players in the timber sector,”says Philippe Genot, manager of the Luxembourg Wood Cluster.

“This conference is a great and unique opportunity to share good experience and best practices between the different players.”

B2B sessions

The conference will also provide an opportunity to learn more about the government’s strategy for data-driven innovation. Initiated by the Ministry of the Economy, the strategy sparked the creation of the Luxembourg Digital Innovation Hub, a brand new national platform designed to facilitate the digitisation process for companies. Over time, the hub will actively contributes to the implementation of the strategy.

In addition, matchmaking sessions will be held throughout the day to allow participants to discuss potential partnerships and collaborations.
