During the GIC – Giornate Italiane Del Calcestruzzo, the largest European trade fair exclusively dedicated to the concrete market which took place in Piacenza at the end of April, Luxembourg company Topp & Screed was among the companies honoured. It was awarded the first prize for innovation in the concrete paving equipment sector.

The company, based in Riesenhoff in the northwest of the country, received the award for the development of its electrified machine for levelling industrial concrete floors. It uses technology derived from the automotive sector to reduce carbon emissions.

The benefits of cross-sector technology transfer

Compact and ultra-precise, this unique machine produces no greenhouse gas emissions and is ideal for construction work where space is limited or confined.

“This recognition would not have been possible without the support of the Ministry of the Economy and Luxinnovation for several years,” says Eric Zacharie, Production Manager at Topp & Screed.

Advised by the national agency for innovation, the company successfully applied for an R&D grant from the Ministry of the Economy to develop this new piece of equipment.

“We are proud to participate in the ‘Made in Luxemburg’ promotion throughout Europe and the world. The first T&S electric machine used outside Europe is currently working in Panama and further discussions are underway on the American continent,” adds Mr Zacharie.

“Topp & Screed is a perfect example of how cross-sectoral technology transfer leads to innovative solutions supporting economic development and decarbonisation of industry”, says Anthony Auert, Luxembourg AutoMobility Cluster Manager at Luxinnovation.
