We embarked with Olivier Chatillon (OC) on Klap’s Fit for Start journey:

How did you first hear about Luxinnovation and our Fit for Start programme?

OC: We first learned about Luxinnovation and its Fit for Start programme at a meeting with Antoine Hron, Senior Adviser – Start-up Support at Luxinnovation. At the time, we were in a first product development phase and planned on launching a minimum viable product (MVP) as quickly as possible. We started discussing with Antione about our ambitions and the problems we had encountered entering our target market. After that, we immediately decided to get involved in Fit for Start.

What has been your biggest achievement since you founded Klap?

OC: This is very easy to answer: putting together the right team!

I think a start-up can only be successful if it consists of great people with the same mind-set. We are all very ambitious and passionate, but we never take ourselves too seriously either. Those things combined create the perfect work environment.

Together, the Klap team has created the easiest and fastest app in the world to edit videos. The first product we launched a year ago differs a lot from what you can download today. After all, every good product is reliant on excellent execution. Nothing else. And we are continuing to improve ours.

What did you learn so far by participating in the Fit for Start programme?

OC: First of all, a start-up must proceed quickly. Through the coaching, networking and monthly goals of the Fit for Start programme, we are now in an ideal position to accelerate. It is very stimulating that there are monthly pitches to a board of investors and entrepreneurs that allow you to present your progress and next steps.

Second, the lean start-up approach is a very useful methodology. We learnt how important it is to launch a product very early, test it with real users and get feedback promptly.

What are your next challenges?

OC: One month ago, we launched the first test version of our application in the Apple store. So right now, the big challenge is to test this version with our early users. To see how well it works for different devices, we are about to connect all kinds of cameras to the app, including drones.

So far, the launch has been communicated to a very restricted circle of people and I would therefore like to seize this opportunity to call for more test users and feedback!
