DIH ON TOURThe 2022 edition of DIH ON TOUR covered the whole country, from Lentzweiler in the north to Dudelange in the south, with nine stops on the way in various industrial zones. It was organised by the Luxembourg Digital Innovation Hub (L-DIH) team at Luxinnovation, whose objective is to promote and facilitate the digital transformation of Luxemburg’s manufacturing sector and the adoption of industry 4.0 technologies and best implementation practices.

The whole idea of DIH ON TOUR is not to wait for company representatives to come to us, but to go out and meet them in their own environment.

“The whole idea of DIH ON TOUR is not to wait for company representatives to come to us, but to go out and meet them in their own environment,” comments Joachim Clemens-Stolbrink, Senior Advisor Digital Transformation at Luxinnovation. “The 2022 edition proved, once again, that this concept is highly appreciated by our target group.

Mutual learning

Digital transformation discussionsThe programme included keynote presentations by experts and digital solution service providers, awareness raising sessions for employees and ample opportunities for company executives and leaders to discuss and exchange experiences. It was also the perfect setting for company representatives to meet and get to know the L-DIH team.

“We covered a wide range of topics: artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity and high performance computing,” says Nicolas Sanitas, Senior Advisor and Digital Community Coordinator at Luxinnovation. “We also provided information on national funding and European support programmes to which companies can apply for support for their digitalisation projects. We received very positive feedback from the participants who claimed that they learnt a lot – and I’m sure we learnt just as much from the discussions.”

Company visits

DIH ON TOUR company visitAnother key element of the DIH ON TOUR programme was the company visits that took place in each industrial zone. B Medical Systems, Faymonville / F.E.L. AG, United Caps, Landewyck Tobacco, Cebi Luxembourg, KÖHL Maschinenbau, FANUC Europe, Avery Dennison and Eurofoil all opened their doors to the tour participants. “Combining the discussions in the bus with factory visits make the topics we talk about much more concrete,” explains Mr Clemens-Stolbrink. “Seeing how others put their digital transformation into practice is also a great source of inspiration.”

Cybersecurity is intrinsically linked with industry 4.0.

The final stop of the bus took place on 19-20 October at Luxexpo, which hosted Cybersecurity Week Luxembourg 2022. “Cybersecurity is intrinsically linked with industry 4.0, which is based on interconnected cyber-physical manufacturing systems and the real-time flow and analysis of data,” comments Mr Sanitas. “The increased connectivity also means increased exposure to various cyber threats, and our presence at Cybersecurity Week was a good opportunity to draw attention to this essential topic.”

The L-DIH team is already preparing the 2023 edition of DIH ON TOUR. “We hope to see many new companies join us there,” concludes Mr Clemens-Stolbrink.
