More about Luxembourg

Becoming Europe’s most trusted data economy

Renowned as a digital forerunner for decades, Luxembourg is investing in becoming Europe’s most trusted data economy. Capitalising on its digital infrastructure, which is already outstanding in terms of connectivity, cybersecurity expertise and secure data storage capacities, the country has recently inaugurated a unique, business-oriented high performance computer – one of several other public and private initiatives to help businesses innovate and grow nationally and internationally.

 A competitively sustainable economy

Luxembourg is the first EU member state to combine its ambition to play a leading role in the digital revolution with the goal of climate neutrality in a single strategy. Being successful does not only mean achieving economic benefits today – it also means taking care of our society and planet, today and tomorrow. Luxembourg is firmly committed to supporting an economy that is both internationally competitive and long-term sustainable.

Luxembourg is one of the world’s leading centres for green finance. A national strategy for the circular economy was adopted by the government in early 2021, with the objective of accelerating the implementation of the circular economy and positioning the country internationally as a centre of expertise in the field.

Product Circularity Data Sheet initiative

The Luxembourg initiative Product Circularity Data Sheet (PCDS) combines the country’s expertise in data with its ambition to foster circularity and sustainability. Launched by the Ministry of the Economy in 2018, the PCDS initiative is aimed at developing an international industry standard that provides a regulated framework for circular data on products and the type of end of use cycle for which they have been designed: reuse, repair, recycling or use as a material bank for new products.

The data sheets provide information about products’ circular characteristics throughout the whole value chain, from raw materials to finished products and from the use phase to re-usage and recycling. They offer a simple way for companies to provide relevant, reliable information without obliging companies to reveal any trade secrets. ISO has just decided to make the PCDS a future ISO / NP 59040 standard – a major step forward towards becoming an internationally recognised standard.
