At end of 2016, the European Commission published a study on digital transformation ranking Luxembourg # 6 in the EU and #4 for digital infrastructure, investment and access to funding and e-leadership.

ICT expertise is critical for Luxembourg as it underpins the sustainable development of many other important sectors. As a “big data” hub, Luxembourg offers an excellent location for the development and internationalisation of ICT companies as well as for innovation. Supported by efficient public research infrastructures and projects, this market offers plenty of opportunities for start-ups, SMEs and large enterprises.

ICT expertise is thus underpinning the sustainable development of other important sectors in Luxembourg, such as the financial, media, clean tech, logistics, automotive and space sectors.

The financial sector depends strongly on the fact that Luxembourg has become one of Europe’s top locations for ICT infrastructures (data-centres, connectivity and Internet traffic) and offers specialised expertise to keep their data safe. This is also true for the emerging biotech industry in Luxembourg, which also relies heavily on confidentiality of medical data.

Luxembourg’s ranking among the top countries for ICT, the presence of numerous global players in the country as well as many start-ups, the creation of thousands of jobs all point to one conclusion: ICT IS THE NEW VECTOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF LUXEMBOURG.
